The skiing
Covered on a Courchevel lift pass, you can access the whole valley very easily from La Tania, and within a couple of lifts you can also take advantage of the rest of the ‘Trois Vallées’ by skiing right down into Méribel, then up and over to Val Thorens. The La Tania area itself features quieter intermediate pistes, with some of the best kept powder to be found on the ‘Dou des Lanches’ sector. There are some wonderful runs back into resort: the long and winding green run, 'Plan Fontaine', and the fabulous undulating tree-lined blue, ‘Folyères’. If you’re not racing back for afternoon tea, stop for a moment and inhale the potent aroma of the pine trees surrounding you. If you’re a confident red-run skier then feel free to join in one of our free Ski Guiding groups, either just for the day if you’re unsure of your way around or the whole week if you fancy a break from the piste map altogether.
The resort
Lying at 1400m on the road between Méribel and Courchevel 1300, La Tania is a pretty resort surrounded by forest: designed originally for journalists and competitors in the 1992 Albertville Olympics and developed tastefully since then with plenty of beautiful wooden chalets. Traffic-free and with easy access to the slopes, it has become the place in the Three Valleys to initiate your kids into the wonderful world of skiing. The village itself is fairly quiet as accommodation is predominantly away from the main street, which is home to a mixture of French and English bars and restaurants, ski shops with a huge range of kids’ equipment, and ski schools that specialise in lessons for little ones.
The chalets
Over ten years ago, Le Ski recognised La Tania’s family-friendly potential and took on three chalets as well as a crèche to keep the children entertained while their parents hit the slopes. Comfort levels have moved on and now we have 3 different, more modern chalets in our programme with our own purpose-built crèche. The beautiful Mar Mau and Rabel have become extremely popular for their excellent facilities and flexible family rooms. The splendid Chalet Michèle is a smaller chalet in the best possible position right next to the piste.
The kids
Just as in Courchevel, there’s entertainment to be found away from the slopes. Kids may love dogsledding with huskies, and during holiday periods there’s usually an organised firework display going on somewhere. Good old bumboarding is always a winner, and easily done close to your chalet with the bumboards provided.
The grown-ups
Adults haven’t been ignored in La Tania. A number of bars have sprung up over the years, and there’s live music to be had most nights, if you can tear yourself away from the cosy lounge of your chalet! Pub Le Ski Lodge has become a popular spot for locals and guests alike, with its relaxed atmosphere and good selection of refreshments. There are plenty of opportunities to grab a bite to eat, from pizzas and crèpes to the more sophisticated offerings from Taïga and the Michelin-starred Farçon. There is a regular, free bus service from La Tania to both Courchevel and Méribel, just down the road, so you also have a number of other options for evening entertainment.
